Zoran is professor of water systems engineering and head of the water and environment group at the University of Exeter. He is an IWA fellow and chartered engineer with CIWEM with more than 27 years of research and consulting experience in the water industry. His research interests are centred on a wide range of issues related to urban water systems. Recent examples include new smart water analytics for real-time detection and location of bursts/leaks in distribution systems and blockages and pipe faults in wastewater systems. Prof. Kapelan pioneered the award winning real-time burst/leak detection technology that is now used companywide in Unite Utilities resulting in major operational cost savings.
